Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor is a hormone that stimulates the bone marrow to produce granulocytes and stem cells and release them into the bloodstream. It is produced by many different tissues within the body, particularly those of the immune system. As a pharmaceutical, it is given to chemotherapy patients to stimulate the white blood cells that are often destroyed by the chemotherapy agent. It's most adverse side effect is Sweet's syndrome, a skin condition.
