Kuni Tarochi was a Kuni Shugenja of the Crab Clan who studied under the guidance of his sensei Kuni Okabu. Tarochi foolishly moved without permission into the shadowlands to kill a minion of Fu Leng by his own, to prove his worth. He cast a jade spell to a wandering ogre, which harmed the beast, but did not stop it immediately. When the ogre had the upper body of the student inside its mouth, the spell began to take its toll, killing the ogre. Okabu found them and extracted his student from the jade ogre's mouth, tended Tarochi, and carried him back to safety.
