Sharles Gluck, alias Energy Boy, hails from the planet Ventura also known as the Gamblers' Planet. When the Legion of Super-Heroes auditioned for new members, Sharles traveled to Earth accompanied by a large Venturan publicity contingent. During his audition his demonstration of power went well at first, but things changed due to Polar Boy's entrance; he became distracted and was unable to continue. The Legionnaires thanked him, but rejected him for membership. Sharles accepted his rejection and returned home to Ventura with his disappointed publicity contingent.
