Egwene returns from tel'aran'rhiod where she met Amys in the Waste and again in Tanchico. She tells Elayne, Nynaeve and Aviendha that Amys told her to come to the Waste to learn. Aviendha explains that Amys is Rhuarc's wife and is sister-wife to Lian. This confuses the girls and shocks them when they finally understand that Rhuarc has two wives. Egwene is determined to go to the Waste so the others have to decide what they will do. Elayne ponders what Rand will do when she tells him she is leaving for Tanchico.
