The Saab 9-6X was to be a Saab-branded automobile based on the Subaru B9 Tribeca CUV. Lighter and more carlike than many truck based SUVs, it was to compete with the Volvo XC90. When General Motors sold their share of Subaru's parent, Fuji Heavy Industries in October of 2005, development of the 9-6X was cancelled. It has been stated from Subaru insiders that the styling of the 9-6X was reused in Subaru's 2007 refresh of the Tribeca. The Saab 9-6X name is not to be confused with the Saab 96, a car produced between 1960 and 1980.
