A Corporate Complex was the name given to a territory on the planet Essowyn in which mining companies were given complete autonomy. In turn, the Council of Elders received a large profit. Mining companies bid on the rights to mine the territory for a set number of years, and were granted charters. Within the Corporate Complexes, Saurton were free to practice their traditions laws and customs in dealing with their fellow Saurton, although they were expected to follow company laws regarding the treatment of members of alien species.
