The Protection spell only shields one person, which is sometimes not enough in a tough battle. Also, it would be really wasteful to use the spell many times to shield the members of the party. Good thing that this better version of the spell exists. Casting it, the added Mandrake Root causes the whole party, the caster included, to fall under the protection of the spell, making many battles easier.
