The ninja in this village are swordsman, alchemists or in rare cases both. When an academy student enters the academy they are given a test that determines if they should be trained in Swordsmanship, Alchemy, or both. The two classes keep a continuation of military power, the alchemists create the weapons and the swordsmen use them.
