George Hale was a reporter for the Herald, a newspaper based in an unknown American city. His co-workers dismissed him because he was prone to flights of fancy, rarely got any good leads and took "energy pills" to make up for being a "weakling." But all that changed when he investigated the murder plot against a group of scientists working for the U.S. Department of War. He learned that Professor Langreth was the murderous gang's next target. While he wasn't able to save the professor's life, Langreth survived long enough to hand George his greatest invention - pills that granted temporary invisibility.
