After his adventure in the Mystic Mountain, Sonic the Hedgehog became lost in the Desert of Eternity and passed out in a sandstorm. The Scimitar Brothers found him and locked him in a Kullconan Town slave cell, but the hedgehog escaped and defeated his oppressors. This prompted Kurse to intervene, using his magic to trap Sonic in a small stone cage. When the Scimitar Brothers helped Sonic escape in exchange for Kurse's defeat, Kurse tortured the "traitors" with everlasting pain. He then turned his attentions to Sonic, planning on turning Sonic into a toad. Fortunately, Sonic was too fast and hit Kurse with a Spin Attack, defeating him.
