Mara Township was located around the northern part of Lake Simcoe, east of Orillia. In 1994, Mara and Rama Township to the north were merged as part of county-wide municipal restructuring, and the fire department became part of Ramara Township Fire and Rescue. Mara had previously provided fire protection to Rama until the late 1980s.
