During Vox Machina's adventure in the Underdark, the group took a vote on whether or not to search a waterfall they found below a bridge. Vex and Keyleth, being the only ones who wanted to search, lost the vote but decided to ignore the results, take the Carpet of Flying, and go search the waterfall anyway. Behind the waterfall they discovered a tunnel. Within the tunnel they discovered an outcast mind flayer named Clarota, and after talking to him for a moment they managed to convince him to ally with Vox Machina.. Clarota would prove to be a valuable ally to Vox Machina through most of their journey through the Underdark.
