Playing Sungka is a print of the Filipino artist Manuel Rodriguez, Sr. (1915- ). Its size is 4.5 x 5.5 inches (unframed). Rodriguez was given a grant by the Rockefeller Foundation to study printmaking in New York. After he had returned to the Philippines in 1962, he taught the art of printmaking and opened the Contemporary Arts Gallery in Manila, a workshop in Manila specializing in prints. He moved back to the USA in the 1970s, where he settled in New York. Rodriguez, who is esteemed as the "Father of Philippine Modern Printmaking", has received numerous accolades throughout his career and was also given honorary professorship by the University of Florence, Italy, in 1963.
