In web development, Comet is a neologism to describe an web application model in which a long-held HTTP connection allows a web server to push data to a browser, without the browser explicitly requesting it. Comet is an umbrella term that uses multiple techniques for achieving this interaction. All methods have in common that they rely on browser-native technologies such as JavaScript, rather than on proprietary plugins.
