Colin Creevey, one of Harry Potter's biggest fans, always carries a camera with him so he can photograph Harry when they run into each other. While Colin was taking pictures with his camera, he sees the Basilisk through his camera screen. This saves his life, as he did not see the Basilisk directly, which would have killed him, but instead merely petrifies him. The Basilisk also had the power to fry Colin Creevey's camera shots while inside the camera.
