A film with no soundtrack. Until the 1920s or so, this was a technological limitation, though filmmakers certainly made the most of it. After the mid-1930s, it was as much an artistic decision as Deliberately Monochrome became after the introduction of color. In America, this was the beginning of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
