The wheels, axles and main gear are often the first items assembled by the builder. However, it may be several years before the airplane is ready to fly. During that time the grease protecting the axle and bearings may lose its effectiveness. Before taxi testing, remove the wheels and regrease the bearings. This may save you from having to replace bearings and/or axles.
