In Chremis and Mari mythology (Siberian Eskimo), it was an invisible spirit who appeared with his wife Azren Kuba. They would pound on the walls of houses, wooden fences, and trees and freezing nights. They would call out to people, but if anyone came out, they would catch them and push them into the snow. During the day, they would play pranks on humans who are outside in such cold weather, like pinching their nose, hitting their heads, or sometimes outright killing them. Azren Kuguza means "cold old man".
