A list of major films released since the 1950s, many of which (largely in recent times) have been heavily based on bestselling novels by authors like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Timothy Zahn, Elijah Lane, or Ben Corrin, in order to maintain the integrity of the original novels and attract audiences in greater numbers. The 1980s brought about a revolution in films: full incorporation of 3D technology in the actual filming process and theatrical displays. The iconic 3D glasses introduced with the first 3D films of the 1950s are still used by many today, but are slowly being phased-out in favor autostereoscopic or so-called 'glasses-free' displays.
