Alexander Land (Russian: Земля Александра, Zemlya Aleksandra) is a territory located in Western Antarctica. The region was claimed by the Russian Empire around 1908, which claimed the territories discovered and explored by Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen in the 1820s. After the fall of the Russian Empire, both Alaska and the Soviet Union claimed the rights to the territory (with Russia taking over the USSR's claim in 1991). While the same region is also claimed by Argentina, Chile, and the United Kingdom; the Alaskan/Russian claims are towards the exact same territory.
