Battle of Io occurred shortly after General Hague's failed coup against President Morgan Clark. Knowing that he would be captured, General Hague attempted an unsuccessful counter-insurgency. After this coup failed, he tried to escape the Sol System with only five Omega class destroyers loyal to Hague. The ships arrived at the Io Jump Gate transfer point, but was intercepted by a Clark-loyal fleet. Hague's own flagship, the EAS Alexander, and other ships were able to escape.
