In positive pressure ventilation, a mechanical ventilator forces air into the lungs to assist breathing in patients with temporary or chronic respiratory difficulty. Positive pressure ventilation is also used in fire fighting to blow smoke out of a room or structure. See Ventilation (firefighting)
