A collar box (or director unit) was a hand-held circuitry box linked to the collars on a slaver's line. The collars were connected by a thin cable, which could energize the collars to subdue unruly or defiant prisoners. The directors were banned devices in most societies, and were often homemade, with an unfinished look.
