When eighteen-month old Nick Tilsley went missing in June 1982 while his childminder Jill Mason was being served in the Corner Shop, Annie Walker put out an appeal to her customers in the Rovers to look for the child. A Dartplayer and his friend Freddie carried on with their game, leaving Annie to remark to Bet Lynch that her remarks had fallen on some stony ground. After a few minutes, the player had an attack of conscience and getting confirmation from Annie as to the age of the vulnerable child, got his mate to give up his game and join in the search, leaving Annie to watch them leave her premises with admiration in her eyes.
