Sir James Spens (1574-1632) was a Scottish nationalist. He became an advisor to Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden during the Thirty Years' War, and was instrumental in bringing Scottish recruits to the King's banner. While he traveled with the king through much of 1631, Spens was in Sweden when Gustavus was killed in 1632. Spens died shortly after hearing the news.
