Kaito was a member of the Nara Clan that was jealous of Shikamaru's intelligence. Tempted by an opportunity for power, Kaito dug up Hidan and joined Kuro Tanzi in an effort to takeover Yugakure. Shortly after taking over Yugakure; Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru, and Sai arrived to stop them. Kaito fought with Hidan against Shikamaru and Sakura. He was kept alive at Shikamaru's request so that he could be punished by the Nara Clan. He was buried alive with Hidan.
