After the South seceded successfully from the Union in 1863 (due to their success at Gettysburg and their march into Philadelphia and Washington D.C.), the Confederacy had quite a problem. They designed to organize a new nation, supposedly conceived in liberty, around the principles of States' Rights. What they did not anticipate, however, is that a confederacy of states is much less secure than one Nation, under God. With the Confederacy split into four separate nations, can the South maintain its "peculiar institution"? With the American West completely independent, will the United States of America ever be truly united again?
