Flies can walk on ceilings through a combination of very low weight (meaning the pull of gravity is quite small) and through the use of a mild glue on their feet. The foot of a fly has two fat pads that provide plenty of surface area to cling with. These pads have many tiny hairs which produce an adhesive substance made of sugars and oils. This creates a mild adhesion to any surface they walk on.
