[Source] Ion-blast missiles were weapons equipped on Imperial snow flyers. They had to be aimed carefully, and any disruption to the snow flyer's trajectory could cause them to miss their targets. Their blast radius was large enough that even a missed shot caused a great deal of damage and could scatter pursuers. During the Mission to Akuria II an unidentified Imperial commander fired an ion-blast missile from his snow flyer, scattering pursuing Rebels on power skis.
