In 2254, the Brazzaville was part of a task force of Starfleet ships patrolling the disputed border of Tholian Assembly space at the Diomed cluster. The task force, led by the USS Enterprise, picked up a distress call from the Federation Theta Kalyb colony and went to investigate. At Theta Kalyb, the task force was attacked by a Chakuun war fleet. Severely damaged and having lost its captain and its shields, the Brazzaville sent out a distress signal but was destroyed by two Chakuun ghostships before the surviving crew could be beamed out.
