Jean Taggart was the wife of DCI Jim Taggart. They married in the late 1960's to early 1970's. Jean was in a wheelchair due to paralysis after giving birth to daughter Alison. Jean was later revealed in Love Knot to be a great admirer of Jazz music. In Hostile Witness she ran in a Glasgow by-election against Mike Junry of the Conservative Party and Joanna Gillen of the Capital Punishment Party. She came third with 57 votes. Jim couldn't vote because he had an unsolved murder case on his hands. When Jim died in 1994, Jean later appeared in her final episode Black Orchid. Her final scene was when Michael Jardine was wrongly accused of raping a woman and Jean believed Michael when he told her he didn't do anything wrong.
