The Freeze Gun and Plasma Gun of Metroid: Other M may be Federation attempts to copy Samus' Ice and Plasma Beams. The Freeze Gun seems to be very powerful compared to the Ice Beam, since it was seen completely freezing a Magdollite solid, and one shot disabled Samus' Power Suit (though it could be argued she was distracted at the time). The Plasma Gun is powerful, but takes "forever to charge" while Samus' can charge in seconds.
