The Second Clone Wars were caused by a Jedi accidentally going back in time to the year 19 BBY. Knowing about the Chancellor's treachery the Jedi sent Saesee Tiin, Agen Kolar, Mace Windu, and Kit Fisto to kill him. Only Kit and Mace survived, however, and Anakin Skywalker attempted to kill Mace and Kit, though Skywalker was spared by Kit Fisto.
