The Victory of the Wind kata was one of the Thousand Years of Steel kata created by Mirumoto Uso and Kakita Kaiten. The kata must be used with a katana or daisho, as in both the art of iaijutsu and skirmishing the master who understood that it was not who struck first who was victorious, but who stroke first with perfect form. The kata enforced the idea that a hindered man struck slowly and poorly, and a man who could strike with precision and speed was to be feared. By focusing on disabling rather than overwhelming the kata's quick shallow strikes took advantage of opponents who attack with sheer force.
