High War Chieftain (HWC) is a senior chieftain-grade rank utilized by multiple Jiralhanae militaries. It was first put into use by the shattered Covenant in 2560 to denote high ranking Jiralhanae capable of leading large-scale ground operations and whole agencies of their respective armies. When the Covenant split into its New and Old namesakes in the late 2570s, both sides retained the new rank of High War Chieftain along with many other ranks introduced simultaneously as said designation as part of the Second Covenant Mass Rearnament.
