Mike Smith is the uncle of serial killer, Tom Smith aka "The Phantom". He also owned the law firm and got his nephew a job there. At some point, Mike found out about Tom's murderous activities, forcing Tom to kill him. Mike's body was later discovered by NCIS Agents G. Callen and Sam Hanna.
