In 2009, six years after the destruction of the Umbrella Corporation, Chris Redfield has become a member of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) and is sent to investigate possible Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.'s) smuggling in Africa. Upon arriving in the Kijuju Automous Zone, Chris meets his partner, Sheva Alomar of the BSAA West African Branch. Chris then has a memory of a grave of his old partner, Jill Valentine, who appears to be dead. Together, the two individuals attempt to rendezvous with the BSAA's Alpha Team, who were attempting to intercept supposed B.O.W. smuggler Ricardo Irving. However, the two encounter two villagers of Kijuju infecting another with the Plaga and the two villagers then retreat, leaving the pair to defend themselves from the infected villager and
