The unnamed DJ had been hired to play music at the unveiling of Tara Mandal's artwork outside the entrance to Victoria Court in May 2009. As a large crowd gathered in Victoria Street, a blissfully unaware Dev Alahan intended to propose to Tara and bribed the DJ with £40 for him to play You're Beautiful by James Blunt whilst Dev handed her a bouquet of red roses and a glass of champagne which contained an engagement ring. After an endearing speech, Tara turned down his proposal and unveiled a large, naked photograph of Dev with the word "liar" written across it.
