Chichi's motherly instincts are heavily played up in this series, going from overprotective to downright abusive. She pressures Gohan even moreso than her mainstream counterpart, forcing him to have knowledge of everything, regardless of its relevance. Gohan isn't even allowed to ask for anything for Christmas that isn't related to his studies. She even suggests putting a microchip in Gohan to keep tabs on his whereabouts. When Krillin has to tell Chichi that Goku's dead and Gohan's been kidnapped by Piccolo, Chichi develops a grudge against him and routinely abuses Krillin.
