Yachay is the traditional name for the phlegm of the curandero healers of the Peruvian Amazon Basin that is believed to have magical properties. It is believed that it can be regurgitated at will by the shamans and passed on to a disciple either by swallowing the regurgitated substance from the hands of the shaman, or by smoking it through a pipe. Shamans believe that it can be used for defense and protection.
