Rand, Mat, Perrin, Moiraine, Lan, Egwene, Nynaeve, and Loial leave the Waygate and travel to Fal Dara, passing vacant farms and land left desolate by the severe winter. Inside the city are many refugees with their possessions and livestock. They arrive at the keep and are greeted by Ingtar and led to Lord Agelmar Jagad. Later Padan Fain is captured trying to enter the city and is brought to the room. After some interrogation, Moiraine and Lan take him away to find out more about him and his orders.
