Tagesthemen is one of Germany's main daily television news magazines on ARD network, focusing more in-depth on the daily topics of news magazine tagesschau. The magazine is produced in Hamburg. On January 8, 2013, Ernie and Bert made a surprise appearance in the studio with host Ingo Zamperoni (an avowed Sesamstrasse fan since age four) in honor of their show's 40th anniversary. They briefly discussed the phenomenon of a "midlife crisis" and sent a celebratory "bye!" out to the viewers.
