In the novel Goldfinger, Jed Midnight was a gang leader whose base of operations was Miami. He participates with Auric Goldfinger in the attempted robbery of Fort Knox. Midnight is as first skeptical of such an ambitious robbery, citing the reputation of the US Army base, until Goldfinger cites earlier robberies of previous "impenetrable" places.
