The letters C, D, F, K, Ñ, P, Q, S, T and X represent two different sounds. The letter always produces the first sound - the second sound is only produced when the letter is between two vowels. Please note that this phenomenon (called consonant gradation) also occurs between different words. However, as the sounds are allophones, you would be understood even if you used the "wrong" sounds.
