John Paul Carmichael was elected to the Baltusian Senate in February 2813, as a member of the National Party. After being reelected for a fourth term in 2825, he had hoped for a promotion within the party. However, Party Leader Lewis Don rejected Carmichael's bid to become Minister of Internal Affairs. Carmichael then left the party and sat as an Independent. He was elected to the Senate as an Independent twice. The Baltusian Pantian Alliance never challenged him in his bid against the National Party.
