Heidi Kirste (b. 1967) is a member of the German national wheelchair basketball team. She appeared in an insert in the Sesamstrasse episode 2267, where her two sons talked about their mother is and how she is able to play basketball despite her disability. Kirste is recognized worldwide as a expert in wheelchair basketball. She participated in the Paralympics from 1984 to 2004; she was selected to carry the flag in 2004, when she retired as an active player. She won the world championship in 1986, one gold medal at the Paralympics in 1984, and a silver medal at the Paralympics in 1988.
