On the modern battlefield firearms are typically considered obsolete due to their overall ineffectiveness against modern armour. Even so, they still do have their advantages over blasters. The main advantage is the higher rate of fire that many slugthrowers can achieve as well as an extended range as projectiles tend not to dissipate over distance like energy bolts.
