Jakai Salmin is the nephew of Benrime Salmin. He was raised by Benrime, and started working as a merchant upon coming of age. During the Azadi occupation of Marcuria, Jakai first blamed the magicals for the situation, even went to meetings of the National Front for Faith and Family. He had plenty of dealings with the Azadi and a steady income thanks to them. Only after his aunt was arrested and sentenced to five years, it dawned on him that the Azadi were at fault, and he decided to join the Resistance.
