Drew Middlemas provided a review of The House of the Dead: Overkill in Issue 249 of Sonic the Comic Online, awarding it 80%. Middlemas commented that the game was often hilarious and as much fun as its predecessors, but worried that it was too easy and may offend some players. Middlemas later returned in Issue 253 to provide a review for Sonic Colours on the Wii. The game received a score of 77% for excellent level design and graphics, but was a little short and frustrating.
