The Global Disease Detection program focuses on gathering, analyzing, and sharing global information to identify and respond to emerging health threats. The program has three mechanisms to accomplish this focus: regional centers that are placed around the world and are concerned with the detection and control of emerging infectious disease; CDC staff placed overseas to support CDC’s mission; and the Global Disease Detection program operations center, which serves as the central clearinghouse focused on early detection of international events to which CDC may be asked to respond.
